They will help you build an audience around your site

Here's a hypothetical question for you: If you were a content producer or content publisher, what would you use to house your content? This isn't a trick question, I swear. How about those of you who are content producers or online publishers already storing your content online. What are you using?

If I were to answer this question, I would say "a Content Management System". I assure you that answer isn't based off an inside-deal I have with CMS developers and I have no financial stake in this inquiry. Frankly, I was once like the masses of people still struggling with the best ways of storing, manipulating and marketing content. Then I started to learn about content management systems.

During this most recent period of time learning about different CMSs, I've created a few different articles discussing important characteristics of CMSs. The articles "Content Management Systems for Publishers", "5 Necessary Steps for Selecting a Content Management System" and "7 Reasons Why Online Publishers Use WordPress" all discuss the basics behind content management systems, if you missed any of those articles. But what about some of the other possible features of CMSs? Some readers may want to know more before determining whether or not our WordPress vs. Drupal vs. Telligent: Which CMS is Right for You? webinar is worth their time. So here are additional features that a CMS can help set up for you and your content.

Our WordPress vs. Drupal vs. Telligent: Which CMS is Right for You? webinar is tomorrow at 12:30 pm ET. Register now so you can learn about three popular content management systems that will help you become a more efficient and organized online publisher.

More 'bells and whistles' from content management systems

Let's say you are in the process of creating your ideal content management system. What would you include? If you are a writer or a publisher with a lot of textual content at your disposal, chances are a written blog with different topic sections is important to you. However, don't forget about these add-ons that could benefit you.

  1. An event calendar. Keep your audience in the know regarding important dates that may include special releases of content, speaking engagements or significant live events. We do this at the Mequoda Daily with webinars, seminars and the Mequoda Summits.
  2. An upload/download area. If you offer your audience podcasts, video content or PDF files, it is necessary for there to be a location where the content can be downloaded.
  3. An image gallery. Image galleries can enhance any website, even if the images aren't products you sell. For artists, image galleries make even more sense, especially when the galleries display the artist's talent.
  4. A survey tool. Do you care about how your audience perceives your website and brand? Are you interested in what you can do to make their experience even better? A survey on your website will give your audience the opportunity to tell you what they think.

These are just four examples of additional features you can add with a content management system. For more info on which CMS is right for you, and more features that can be added with a CMS, join us tomorrow for our WordPress vs. Drupal vs. Telligent: Which CMS is Right for You? webinar.
